Anne Hathaway is not a typical Hollywook actress. She doesn't live in Los Angeles like most stars, because she doesn't like ththe lifestyle there. "I can't be in sun. I've got really pale skin". Her preferred city is New York: "It lets* me be ME", she says.
The Wite Queen
This month, Anne is in the 3-D film Alice in Wonderland. She plays the Wite Queen in the Disney adptation of the classic English book by Lewis Carroll.
The actress became famous in the 2001 film The Princess Diaries. But she didn't only want be in children's films. So she changed direction and took more serious roles. She was in dramas like Brokeback Mountain and Rachel Getting Married. She also appeared* in comedies like Bride Wars and The Devil Wears Prada, with Meryl Streep. So her new role as the White Queen in Alice in Wonderland is a surprise return to children's films!
Pale and pure
Anne was born in New York, and wanted to be a nun* when she was a child. She has been to the Vatican in Rome, Itlaly, a few times and sometimes regrets her dicision to become an actress: "I saw some nuns there and I wanted to run up to them and say, 'take me!' I love the idea of being devoted* to service: zero vanity". Hollywood is very competitive, but Anne has strong principles: " I love my job, but if it means hurting* someone, I won't do it" she says. She is also a vegetarian and does charity* work, inspired by her friend Angelina Jolie. The two actresses went to Cambodia together. While she was there, Anne realized how lucky* she is. WShe remembers thinking: "I'm wearing a jacket* that could support* 20 cambodian families for a month".
Anne's hereos
Anne also comes from a privileged family, and thinks that education is very important:" College* is a unique time, " she says. "You're exposed to so many grat minds*".
Some "great minds" that Anne admires are the actresses audrey Hepburn and Judy Garland. She is also a big fan of British actresses Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. But her role* model is Meryl Streep. "She has accomplished everything that I want to do", she says of Streep.
So we know Anne has big ambitions.
